Xbox One is Boss

Five Amazing Features of the new Xbox ONE

Dumb to Smart.

Xbox one turns old flatscreen into a smart tv. As long as your flat has HDMI inputs Xbox One with its Kinect features unlocks voice command, wifi capabilities, and a host of cool stuff its predecessors were not capable of doing.

Power of processing

Each unit comes standard with the Kinect hardware, eight core processor,  8 gb of ram, usb 3.0, 500gb hard drive. By the way that Kinect hardware is equipped with a retinal stimulating 250000 pixel infrared tracking camera that does everything from face recognition to heart monitoring. This camera processes a blazing 2gb of data per second.

Multitasking

Skype, Kinect, Internet Explorer, and searches for your fantasy league updates can run simultaneously while gaming. One –Snap also has voice command features.  This is a feature used by Windows 8. One-Snap is the amazing new utility that allows multitasking on Xbox One.

Backward Compatibility-----NOT

This is one drawback of the Xbox One. However, the new games being developed will deliver. Dead Rising 3, Metal Gear Solid 5, and of course Madden 25 for Xbox One. Your Gamertags, and gamerscore can be migrated. Controllers,  arcade downloads and old 360 games wont work. That sucks.

Big brother X

Xbox One is always on. Watching and listing for voice commands. It can function as a video game DVR recording all of your big dog exploits or highlights while gaming. You can also share these capabilities via Youtube, or other social media outlets.

Headless Headhunter, Irrelevant Recruiter. What questions to ask and why when dealing with recruiters and head hunters

Headless Headhunter and Irrelevant Recruiter

For the past several years I have meandered through various recruiters and headhunters with a mixed bag of experiences. As an Information Technology professional the middleman has to be just as versatile and adept as I am. Most recruiters don’t know anything about the positions they looking to fill. Yet again it becomes a numbers game and as a jobseeker, without the correct headhunter we become a square peg being forced into a round hole. There are several questions I ask when interviewing with recruiters and headhunters. Here are the first three questions we should ask, and why.

What business sector is your area of expertise?

I ask this question for obvious reasons.  If the recruiters’ biggest clients are in the green industry, clearly filling IT positions is a totally different challenge. Each industry has a different skill set. From a digital standpoint each industry has a different keyword make up that designates a qualified candidate or not. Many say send you resume to a multitude of recruiters, and headhunters. I disagree. Finding and cultivating a relationship with the recruiter who specializes in your career field is much more productive in your job search.

What percentage of your talent pool gets a permanent hire?

Asking this question seems to stimulate a conversation. Especially when the recruiter is clueless, or the percentage is non-existent. If the latter is true then the recruiting agency is really a temporary service. Temporary Services seem to have no relationship with their hiring managers or the talent pool. In both cases the primary objective is to fill the available positions for the primary client. Once the position is filled the recruiter collects a fee. That said who fills that position makes no difference to the recruiter. They have an agenda.

How long have you been in the recruiting industry?

This is another straightforward question. Since I have been in the IT industry for over ten years, I would like to have a recruiter who has been recruiting in the IT industry for at least 10 years. Their ability to recognize evolution and changes in the field is astute. Every quarter or so there is a transformational change in most areas of IT. The technology moves so quickly. However, the base or the core remains the same. Recruiters and headhunters in the area of IT understand this. Therefore irrelevant questions, conversations and interviews are avoided. How’s that for productivity in your job search.

Are meeting the hiring managers’ needs or creating careers for the members of your talent pool, or both?

Once the interview is over, and a few days go by, this question will be answered. For the seasoned recruiter the answer is both. My goal is to become more than just a number to the recruiter and better than a temporary to the company that hires me. With that know the companies you would like to work with, and why. Know the recruiters’ areas of expertise. Know how long they have been specializing in these areas. In addition, create ways to add value, and become an asset. In most recruiters eyes we are already commodities.

Slothful Computers

Slow computers are aggravating!

Most people grab new computers every couple years based on the speed the computer performs. Solving the slow computer problem doesn’t require much. A couple of routing tasks and freeware can help keep our slightly antiquated machines running smoothly.

Registry Errors

Most common problems slowing down our computers involve registry errors, spyware and viruses.
Your computers registry contains information for running software and hardware on your computer. When software or hardware is uninstalled these instructions can be leftover from the uninstall. Leftover to slow booting and processing of other relevant applications. I use a program called CCleaner on all of my clients computers as well as my own. It’s a free program.

Spyware & viruses

These frustrating programs run rampant online. They are installed without our permission and usually attach themselves to emails and other downloads that appear to be legitimate.
  • Switching the search engine provider
  • Spam from your email address
  • Tracking and keylogging
Are just a few things spyware and viruses can do to your computer. Don’t download software online if you don’t trust the company you are downloading from. It’s a very good idea to have an anti-virus program as well. I install Spybot Search and Destroy on all client computers as well as my own. CCleaner also has utilities that allow and prevent infection.

In conclusion, preventative maintenance is the best medicine. A few safety measures can keep your computer running like new.

Websology Consulting is a firm that specializes various aspects of computing. Upgrades, Desktop Support and Repair is one area.

Are you Online:

According to Pew Internet one in five adults are still not online. Factors that contribute to these numbers include race, age, household income and education. Survey participants who chose to complete the questionnaire in Spanish rather than English, adults with less than a high school education, respondents from household with less than $30,000 annual incomes don’t have internet access. Fifty percent of the sample indicated that the internet was not relevant.

The very same survey sample could take advantage of the internet to learn another language, complete their education, and start their own businesses. It is also interesting that the majority of the respondents also stated they never used the internet.

It is a vicious cycle. The digital divide still exists. Websology Consulting is developing a nonprofit to address this exact issue.  The Internet levels the playing field, minimizes entrance barriers, and ultimately improves your quality of life.

Site Abandonment

Making your website sticky is a talent, science and skill. Website navigation is integral to this process. Sticky refers to the ability of a website to keep the users attention and complete the call to action. Whether the call to action is the completion of a purchase, input of an email address, or click of a button, the user must stick to the website to fulfill the objective. Naturally, a huge portion of the formula involves offering a product or service that differentiates itself from that of the competition. Website presentations rely heavily on site navigation. Site navigation should be sensible and simple. It should appeal to your customer base. If not, your customers can and will be easily lost to your competition. Many times your website appearance, performance and overall relevancy will be compared directly to your physical business. That said, if your website performs slowly and navigates poorly the same will be considered true for your physical business. Use your websites navigation as a tool to captivate users and prevent site abandonment.

We’ll do these things on your website to make it stickier and complete the call to action.
1.       Use continuous navigation throughout the website. Make the navigation primary and prevalent on every page. Highlight the current page and use breadcrumbs to display the path used to arrive at the current page. Using a secondary navigation requires even more strategy and planning.
2.       Employ cool banners and compelling visual images that communicate the message of your product or service and enhance navigation on pages.
3.       Categorize, rank and list products and services in a logical, visually appealing manner.
4.       Update consistently. Display sales, promotions, and other recent changes inside the navigation.
5.       Avoid dropdowns and sliders unless absolutely necessary. When using dropdowns and sliders plan them carefully and strategically.

Site abandonment is inevitable. However, there are many things that can be done to minimize the phenomenon. Minimizing abandonment means completing the transaction. With completed transactions come increased revenues, branding, and online exposure. Using site navigation as a vehicle to reinforce website objectives is imperative.
We will show you how!!!
