According to Pew Internet one in five adults are still not
online. Factors that contribute to these numbers include race, age, household
income and education. Survey participants who chose to complete the questionnaire
in Spanish rather than English, adults with less than a high school education,
respondents from household with less than $30,000 annual incomes don’t have
internet access. Fifty percent of the sample indicated that the internet was
not relevant.
The very same survey sample could take advantage of the
internet to learn another language, complete their education, and start their
own businesses. It is also interesting that the majority of the respondents
also stated they never used the internet.
It is a vicious cycle. The digital divide still exists.
Websology Consulting is developing a nonprofit to address this exact issue. The Internet levels the playing field,
minimizes entrance barriers, and ultimately improves your quality of life.
